Fortunately I confirmed the internship I really wanted. For the month of May I will be interning at the UCSD School of Medicine under Dr. Francisco Villrreal who works in the divisions of cardiology and endocrinology. Their major focus is to understand psychopathology of cardiac remolding. A lot of their research includes studying various chemicals and how they affect the heart and its properties. Since my brother has interned here before I was able to get a bit of insight on what it is he did on an everyday basis. I'm not exactly sure the project I will be working on until the month approaches but my brother was able to shadow various fellows. Participate in lab work such as taking samples, recording observations through microscopes and even got to assist with the dissection of a rats heart! I am personally most excited just to get a general feel of what working in this type of environment is going to be like and hopefully I am able to gain a deeper understanding of the heart through that. To the right I have included my resume.
