Think about an academic subject that inspires you. Describe how you have furthered this interest inside and/or outside of the classroom.
All of a sudden I was looking at the night sky. It was clear, with thousands of glowing stars that covered almost every inch of the endless sky. In a sudden movement I stepped back, and found myself in a laboratory at UCSD peering at cells under a microscope. It only took that single moment that sparked a burning desire in me to understand the biological beauty that surrounds us everyday. Growing up I was always curious about what makes up the things around me but it was not until this past year that I was able to focus all my curiosity on a newfound passion of mine. Biology. An intricate yet complex topic which much left to explore and discover. After completing almost a year of this subject I decided to further pursue my understanding by completing a month long research internship where I was able to observe and assist in various techniques and procedures in a real laboratory environment. To say the least, I absolutely loved it. Every day was a new adventure that I looked forward to tackling. During my time there I learned ambition. The importance of creating goals that challenge you everyday and push you to do your best. This is definitely a quality that I now hold and plan to use. Adding on, I was able to learn firsthand the amount of work and dedication that goes into research. There is so much focused and hard work required for achieving ambitious goals that I was able to take with me and I know I will be able to implement in the future. After completing this experience I quickly applied for the opportunity to return to UCSD and participate in a binational research program for seven weeks. I could not be more overjoyed! Here I will put my skills to use as well as continue to build on them. In my personal life I have become a more inquisitive thinker. My everyday wonderings are what motivate me everyday to answer my own questions and continue furthering my growth and eventually flourish as a young scientist.
